One day we're all going to die.
The money in your bank account goes to the heirs from the will, whether or not through a notary office.
Just like your gold bars, diamonds and valuable paintings.
But what will happen to you XRP after you die?
Do your heirs know your wallets, your "secrets"?
What do they know about cryptocurrency?
Are they able to access and sell your safely kept XRP (of course via Xaman)?
If your crypto is on an exchange, help may still be available, but not with a Non-custodial wallet such as Xaman.
There is no notary office or bank employee who can help you with this
Will your precious XRP be lost forever?
How will your heirs feel if XRP reaches $100 after your death?
I have every confidence that the smart people at XRPL Labs will be able to figure this out with some C++, a few HOOKS and some PHP
Something like:
If account is not active for > X months
Send PUSH message: "Yo, are you still alive?"
IF NOT response = activate account
THEN sell all XRP for Euros or Dollars
Send to bank account (Heir)
(happy) END
But seriously, it's something we'd rather not think about but actually should.
I cannot think of a solution for this but maybe smarter people can.

You are completely right, and that is something we are indeed going to address with Hooks (smart contracts).
We can't send straight to a bank account because the two worlds aren't easily connected, but we're thinking about a way for a "dead man switch" to allow for family / ... to "claim" the funds from the wallet.

Wietse Wind XRP sent to nominated cryptocurrency wallet after Deadman switch is activated. Therefore, there is no sale and the nominee can continue to benefit from the XRP investment or choose to sell XRP. There my be security issues to consider with this though.

Sven Kunzendorf As there is no bank headless connection to a bank (and as there will not be) I don't see other options.
